A total of about 20 experts and school practitioners from seven European countries participated in the conference. The following lines reflect the way some of them appreciated the conference and the expectations they have for a similar meeting in the future.
“I thought the conference was very useful and enabled some really good conversations. Although the numbers were small this did mean that most people had time to talk to each other and to share views and experiences.
From the general reaction there seemed to be considerable interest from those involved with school about current or recent research projects as they were shared which is encouraging and also demonstrates the need to set up the occasions when key practitioners can hear and question researchers about their work. Likewise it was good to here about what is happening in schools in the different countries and to listen for the schools' priorities. So the dialogue is very useful and worthwhile. I would hope that at future events we may be able to go a stage beyond this first stage dialogue and discuss what projects would be most useful to the schools and how they might be achieved by facilitating international collaboration between universities and other centres of research and also how potential practitioners with a research commitment or interest could be drawn into the work. Some of this was beginning to happen around the fringes and it is probably too early to expect that to have been the focus this time but at future meetings I would hope that this might be a key strand of the programme planning.”
